Which Type Is Right for You?

Traditional Tank (Gas or Electric)

  • Best for: Budget-friendly installs, simultaneous users

  • Key specs: Capacity (gal/L) and First-Hour Rating (FHR)

  • Pros: Lower upfront cost, simple maintenance, strong peak delivery

  • Consider: Recovery rate, footprint, and standby losses

Tankless (On-Demand)

  • Best for: Endless hot water, space savings, high-efficiency homes

  • Key specs: Flow rate (GPM) at required temperature rise (ΔT)

  • Pros: Energy savings, compact wall mount, long life expectancy

  • Consider: Gas line sizing/venting, descaling in hard-water areas

Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater (Electric)

  • Best for: Maximum efficiency, utility room/basement installs

  • Key specs: UEF rating, ambient temperature range, condensate drainage

  • Pros: Exceptional energy savings, dehumidifies the space

  • Consider: Needs clearance/air volume; may run louder than standard tanks

  • Pros: Exceptional energy savings, dehumidifies the space

  • Consider: Needs clearance/air volume; may run louder than standard tanks

  • Household profile: People, bathrooms, simultaneous uses (showers, laundry, dishwasher)

  • Tank sizing: Use FHR (not just tank size) to match your peak hour demand

  • Tankless sizing: Add up fixture GPM and calculate ΔT from your inlet water temperature to target setpoint (usually 120°F/49°C)

  • Hybrid heat pump: Confirm ambient space, electrical capacity, and recovery expectations

  • In-Home Assessment & Quote
We review usage, space, venting/electrical/gas, drainage, and code requirements; then present good/better/best options.

  • Permits & Preparation
We secure permits (where required), schedule the install, and protect work areas.

  • Professional Installation

    • Gas/Electric Connections to code

    • Venting (B-vent, direct, or PVC/condensing as applicable)

    • Condensate management (neutralizer & pump if needed)

    • Safety hardware: T&P discharge, mixing valve, drain pan, expansion tank (where required)

    • Leak alarm and seismic strapping where applicable

  • Startup, Testing & Training
We set temperature, verify combustion/electrical, check for leaks, test FHR or GPM delivery, and walk you through maintenance.

  • Registration, Rebates & Warranty
We register your equipment, submit eligible incentives, and provide all documentation.

  • Good – High-Recovery Tank (Gas/Electric)
Reliable, affordable hot water with strong recovery and standard warranty.

  • Better – High-Efficiency Tank or Hybrid Heat Pump
Higher UEF, lower operating cost; hybrid models include condensate drain and advanced controls.

  • Best – Condensing Tankless (On-Demand)
Top efficiency, endless hot water, compact footprint; includes descaling valves and condensate neutralizer.

(Model availability and features vary; we provide multiple options during your quote.)

  • We identify manufacturer, utility, and government incentives for high-efficiency models and handle the paperwork.

  • Financing available (on approved credit) to keep upfront costs low.

  • Prefer no ownership? See Water Heater Rentals for $0-down options.

  • Area protection and old unit removal

  • Code-compliant gas/electrical and venting/condensate connections

What size tank do I need?
We match your First-Hour Rating (FHR) to peak demand (people, bathrooms, and fixtures). Many families land in the 40–60 gal range, but FHR is the real key.

How do I size a tankless?
Add the GPM for simultaneous fixtures and calculate ΔT from incoming water to 120°F/49°C. We size the unit to deliver that flow at temperature—no cold surprises.

Do I need to upgrade my gas line or electrical panel?
Sometimes—tankless and hybrid models may require larger gas lines or dedicated circuits. We verify during the assessment.

Will I need new venting?
Possibly. High-efficiency and condensing models use different vent materials/routes. We include venting in our quote.

How long does installation take?
Most tank replacements finish in one visit. Tankless/hybrid installs can take longer due to venting, condensate, and electrical/gas upgrades.

Can I keep my current temperature setting?
Yes. We typically set 120°F/49°C for comfort and safety, and can adjust based on your needs and local code.

Keep it running like new

Add our Water Heater Protection Plan for annual tank flushes, priority service, repair discounts, and safety checks—including T&P valve testing and anode-rod inspection. Preventive maintenance extends tank life, reduces energy use, and keeps your hot water reliable.
