Find Your Size (Measure Once—Buy Right)

  1. Check the frame label on your old filter (e.g., 16×25×1).

  2. If it’s missing, measure the slot: width × height × thickness (inches).

  3. Order the nominal size (rounded number on the box). Most 1″ filters are ~0.75″ thick in “actual” size.

Popular sizes: 14×20×1, 14×25×1, 16×20×1, 16×25×1, 20×20×1, 20×25×1, 16×25×4/5 (media cabinet).

  • MERV 8 (Good): Dust, lint, basic protection; minimal airflow impact; great for most households.

  • MERV 11–12 (Better): Smaller particles, pet dander and pollen; a solid all-around upgrade.

  • MERV 13 (Best for homes): Finer particles and allergens; pair with variable-speed/ECM blowers for best results.

Tip: Higher MERV = finer filtration and more airflow resistance. If your system struggles with airflow, consider MERV 8–11 or upgrade to a 4–5″ media cabinet that provides both high filtration and low pressure drop.

  • Pleated 1″ & 2″ filters: Affordable, effective dust/allergen control.

  • 4–5″ media filters (cabinet): High surface area, lower static pressure at higher MERV; ideal with high-efficiency furnaces.

  • Washable mesh (mini-split): Rinse-clean filters for ductless systems (capture dust; not a substitute for high-MERV media).

  • Odour/Carbon options: Helps reduce odours and some VOCs in kitchens, pet areas, or basements.

  • 1″ pleated: Every 60–90 days (monthly with pets, smokers, construction, or allergies).

  • 2″ pleated: Every 90–120 days.

  • 4–5″ media: Every 6–12 months (inspect at 6 months).

  • Mini-split washable: Clean monthly during heavy use, replace as needed.

Always inspect monthly. If the filter looks grey or shows dust cake, replace/clean sooner to protect your blower and coil.

  • Power off the furnace/air handler before replacing.

  • Follow the airflow arrow on the filter frame (toward the furnace).

  • Ensure a snug fit—no gaps where air can bypass the filter.

  • Keep return grilles clear (no furniture, drapes, or boxes blocking airflow).

  • Upgrading to MERV 13? Make sure your system can handle it or consider a media cabinet for lower pressure drop.

  • Auto-Ship Subscriptions: Choose your size and interval—filters arrive when it’s time to change.

  • Bulk Packs (4, 6, 12): Stock up and save for the season.

  • Fast Delivery or Pickup: Next-day GTA delivery on common sizes; free local pickup available.

  • Reminders: We’ll email/text your change dates so you never forget.

  • Media cabinets (4–5″ filters) retrofit to most furnaces for better filtration with lower resistance.

  • HEPA add-on systems for ultra-fine particle capture in homes with allergies/sensitivities.

  • UV-C & coil purification to reduce biofilm on the evaporator coil.

  • HRV/ERV ventilation to bring in fresh, filtered outdoor air and reduce stuffiness.

What’s the difference between MERV, MPR, and FPR?
MERV is the industry standard. MPR (3M) and FPR (retail scales) are brand/store ratings. We convert if needed—tell us your current filter’s label.

Can I jump straight to MERV 13?
Yes—if your system supports the airflow. If airflow or noise worsens, consider MERV 11–12 or upgrade to a 4–5″ media cabinet for high MERV with low pressure drop.

Do thicker filters last longer?
Usually. 4–5″ media filters have more surface area, so they capture more dust at a lower pressure drop and often last 6–12 months.

How do mini-split filters work?
Most are washable mesh that capture larger dust. Clean monthly in peak season. For finer filtration, dedicated mini-split IAQ accessories may be available.

I can’t find my size—can you source it?
Yes. Many non-standard sizes are available by special order. We’ll help you measure and order the correct dimension.

Will a better filter fix dust in my home?
It helps, but also check leaky ducts, vacuum with a HEPA bag, and maintain humidity/ventilation. We can assess your system.
